Majority of tenants are not aware of their rights

The majority of tenants in the UK are not aware of their rights according to a recent research taken by Totally Money.

According to the research up to 97% of tenants don't know their full rights as tenants and over half think

that landlords can increase the rest without notifying them.

38% don't know when the landlord is authorised to enter the property.

57% think that landlords are required to fix any and all the problems with their property. Landlords are not required to fix the small issues, especially when it's caused by the tenant.

Mark Molony, head of brand and communications at Totally Money, stated :

“Whether you’re a tenant or a landlord, knowing your rights and keeping an eye out for warning signs means you’re well prepared in the event of an issue or a dispute.

“We created this study in order to make sure readers had access to clear answers - it can often be tricky to find out the exact information on a problem while renting!”
