Landlords of long-term empty homes in Stratford will have to pay double council tax

Owners of empty homes in Stratford will have to pay double tax. Currently there are 200 properties that qualify for the premium. This will raise more than £186,000 a year.

This decision follows the recent legislation by the government will allows local councils to increase council tax from 50 to 100%.

David Platts, SDC head of revenues, said:

This levy is part of the government drive to increase the number of properties back on to the market and so contribute to the national shortfall in housing numbers.”
